Choosing Between The Corset And The Bustier

Everybody likes to try new things in terms of fashion from accessories to clothes and even lingerie. If we wear some accessories just because they are trendy, some of the lingerie items are used to improve one's cleavage, to make one look slimmer, and even to make one appear she has a longer body. Women love to look sexy through their mini dresses and their lingerie. If one does not usually show her panties or bras, there are a few items in the lingerie category that can be considered tops. These pieces of lingerie are the corset and the bustier.

The both come in different sizes and different colors and designs. Some of them come in sets that have matching panties or briefs. Unfortunately a lot of people think the two items are the same and thus fulfill the same functions. In reality the corset is different from the bustier and vice versa. The corset is a piece of lingerie that wraps the body from the breasts to the hips. Thus the effect of the corset is to make you look thinner. The bustier is a piece of lingerie that draws attention to one's breasts and it is not longer than the waist.

While designers, models and famous actresses made both of them successful items especially for the evening attires, the problem that arises now is which one to use and when. Both of them are intended to make one look sexy and top designers create different shapes and make the corset and the bustier from a variety of materials and can use a zipper or a lace to make sure they are close to the body. If the bustier is meant to draw attention to one's cleavage and is usually made from lighter materials, the corset is meant to give support to the body and hide a size.

The original corset used a lace for closing. The lace is easier to tighten and can adjust the corset perfectly. The lace should not be too loose so that the corset stays in place, but it also should not be too tight since it might cause breathing problems or even worse broken bones. However if worn correctly the corset can be a comfortable and sexy piece of lingerie that makes your hips and cleavage sexier and your waist smaller. A lot of times the corset is used in the design of the wedding dresses thus helping achieve the princess look, but it can also be successfully used in evening outfits when one wants to look ravishing. Whatever the case a corset should not be worn for the first time at the event because when you wear one the breathing changes and the corset itself needs time to mold to your body.

Corsets create wonderful curves when correctly fitted. The key to a good fit is measuring yourself accurately. This is best accomplished by measuring yourself in front of a mirror. With your bra on, measure your full bust, under bust and waist. A corset is designed to fit a proportionate figure, which most manufacturers assume is a waist 8 inches smaller than the under bust. Another important piece of information is that corsets are not intended to be laced fully closed in the back. If your waist is a bit fuller, you will need to adjust the size of the corset up a bit. Also, if your bra cup size is DD or more, you will need to adjust the size of the corset up one size. For example, your full bust is 40 inches, your under bust is 37 and your waist is 32 inches. The correct size is 36 or 38. The size 36 will leave about 4 inches of flesh peeking through the back laces; the size 38 will leave about 2 inches. In this case, the 36 is more desirable for most ladies.
