Ladies Nightwear So Sexy Even In History

Ladies' nightwear is now available in a wide range of styles. With so many styles on the market, it is hard to remember that specialized nightwear is a relatively new creation. Provided here is a quick history of ladies' nightwear.

Chemises

Chemises can be traced to the tunic-like garments worn in ancient cultures. By the Middle Ages, the chemise had developed into an early form of underwear. The long garments protected clothing from sweat and body oils, and were the only clothing items to be washed on a regular basis.

Chemises were also worn for sleeping. Both men and women simply removed their outer garments and slept in their chemises. In the morning, they put the outer clothing back on.

Negligees

Negligees are believed to be the first widely distributed example of ladies' nightwear. The first negligee was introduced in France in the 1700s. At the time, the revolutionary new garment was designed to serve a utilitarian purpose. It was long and heavy, as were the gowns of the era.

Negligees kept pace with dress styles, and in the 1920s they began to mirror the short satin evening dresses that were then popular. These shorter and lighter ladies' nightwear pieces were definitely sexy, but were not specifically designed as such. It was not until after World War II that negligees were designed as sexy lingerie pieces.

Nightshirts/Nightgowns

Nightgowns and nightshirts developed naturally from the earlier chemises at the beginning of the 20th century. Nightshirts are generally simple, thigh-length plain shirts. Dorm shirts are a newer form of nightshirt. They generally feature a slogan or cartoon character and are often worn for modesty in communal living environments.

Nightgowns vary widely in design. In modern times, the lines between negligees and nightshirts have been heavily blurred. In general, nightgowns are longer and heavier, perhaps made of cotton or flannel. Negligees are shorter and sexier, in sensual fabrics like silk.

Pajamas

The original pajamas can be traced to at least the 17th century in South and West Asia. By the 18th century, British missionaries had adopted the style as sleepwear for men and boys. In the early 20th century, pajamas replaced nightshirts as the usual sleepwear style for males in the UK.

However, it was not until much later that pajamas became a popular form of sleepwear for females in Western society. Although previously available, pajamas did not begin to outstrip nightgowns in sales until the mid-1980s. Today, pajamas are available for women in a wide variety of styles and colors. Pajamas pants with a T-shirt or tank top have now become a popular outerwear style as well, particularly for teens and young adults.

Lingerie Styles

Today, nearly anything can be worn as ladies' nightwear. However, many women love silk lingerie styles for their luxurious sex appeal. You can find nightwear versions of all sorts of sexy lingerie items.

Ladies' nightwear has come a long way since the dawn of the chemise. Today's nightwear is comfortable and often luxurious, offering a range of styles. Many women's nightwear collections include a blend of practical and sexy pieces, ensuring that no matter what the occasion, they will always have appropriate nightwear.

The Best Bras for Your Favorite Styles

How often have you selected the perfect outfit and wondered: "What bra am I going to wear under this?" Better yet: "Am I supposed to wear a bra with this?" From full coverage bras to barely there adhesive cups, there is a growing array of bra styles to keep a look together under even the most brazen dresses. Whether its added support or subtle enhancement you seek, here are a few guidelines for selecting the best bra styles.

What Do I Wear Under This!

Tees, Lightweight Knits & Body Hugging Tops:

Smooth seamless bras, also referred to as 't-shirt bras' look best under these styles. Lacy bras, bow details, and ruffles will create an uneven surface across your bust.

Spaghetti Straps & Strapless:

Bulky bra straps look tacky with thin straps & strapless styles. A good strapless bra in nude or black is a lingerie essential. This bra allows you to wear sexy styles without sacrificing support.

Deep V Necklines:

To pull of these styles, you will want to select a bra where the cups are joined by a thinner band near the bottom of the bra. These bras are commonly referred to as 'plunge' or 'cut away' bras.

Low-Back and Backless styles:

Backless bras are the perfect solution for these styles. The supportive straps loop around the armhole, eliminating the annoying band displayed across your back. Stick on cups and adhesive bras are other great alternatives.

T-backs and Tanks:

Racer-back bras look best under these sporty styles. The shape of the bra mimics that of the style being worn.

Halter Tops & Asymmetric Styles:

Convertible bras tend to be the best solution for these styles. Straps can be easily be adjusted for halter necks and one-shoulder styles.

Lingerie invisibly shapes our body-line underneath the clothes we wear. Selecting the correct bra style ensures you get the look you want, with the support you need. This alone can make the difference between looking basic or breathless.

Get Fitted For a Bra!

Take Action! Measure yourself at least 2 times a year. Women change bra sizes several times throughout their lives. Face it, most women gain and lose weight. Some gain and lose weight seasonally Women have babies. Women go through hormonal changes. Our breasts change. Our breasts need to be fitted for a bra. For some reason, the majority of women only get fitted once or twice in their lives. This is why 80% of the women wear the wrong bra size.

The emotional hang up! I know several women that squeeze their boobies into the wrong size bras on purpose. They have the emotional need to be a certain size. They do not care about back fat from smaller bras or the overflowing bras or the lack of proper support. They have this image of themselves as a particular size even though subconsciously they know they are bigger. Other women may choose a bra size that is too big. It rides up the back. They pull up the straps to hold it up knowing full well that the support should come from the band. Their boobies get lost in their bras; however, they are able to tell their significant other that they are a larger size than what is the reality. They may emotionally have the need to be the same size as they were in their twenties.

Denial! Even as clothing sizes change, many women still insist on wearing the wrong size. They may not fit into their pants, shirts, or dresses; however, the breasts are more malable and can be squeezed into the wrong size a little easier than other clothing. A wrong fit bra does not look good. It does not feel good. It does not support. Yet, many women choose to wear the wrong size as long as they get some of their breasts into the cups. They keep telling themselves that their boobs do not change.

Cost! Some women do not want to get the correct size bra due to the costs. A good fit bra, especially for a plus size woman costs around sixty dollars. You need to change out bras and you need several. That can add up if you are on a budget. It is easier to trick yourself into wearing the wrong size. You can be creative and finds ways to tighten the bra or loosen the bra. Women own several bras and would have to replace all of them. They like the selection that they chose over the years of strapless bras, support bras, seamless bras, lace bras, sports bras, padded bras, etc... The costs add up at sixty dollars a pop.

The Dilemma! People need to view bras, especially the correct sized bras, as necessities. Bras, although designed to look nice, are meant to support. A proper fit bra is essential to breast, rib, and back health. For large size women, the correct size bra can do wonders. They will prevent pain and keep you from damaging your breast tissue. The cost of a good fit bra is your health. Do not worry about the cost. A wrong fit bra will cost more in doctor bills. Do not worry about your size. It is just a letter and a number. You will look so much better in your clothing with the proper bra sizing. Just be proud of who you are.

Get Fitted-Now! Getting fitted is easy. You can go to most department stores or specialty shops. You can measure yourself. Grab a measuring tape and a mirror and go online and follow directions. Once you know your exact size, go and buy bras. You will feel better. You will look better. It is emotionally healthy to know who you are and what size you are. Finally, bras do wear out and need to be replaced every 6 months anyway. A proper fit bra will make a huge difference in your life both short and long term.

Most Lingerie is Over Priced - Be Careful to Find Value

Have you ever stopped to consider that Lingerie doesn't cover that much, in other words it does not take that much fabric to make it, and thus, wouldn't it seem plausible that the manufacturer should cut you some slack on the price? Why, well, why not pass on some of that savings in material costs to you, the sexy customer? After all, you make that lingerie look very nice, and well, shouldn't they be paying you to wear it, especially if it has a tag on it somewhere, a logo with a brand name?

Indeed, it seems that there is a little bit of price gouging going on in the Lingerie sector of our clothing economy and it just does not seem very fair to me. Recently, the Online Think Tank was talking about the massive amounts of Chinese lingerie and skimpy clothing coming over to the US and yes the price is very low, but it ought to be even lower. Next, compare some of the Victoria Secret Lingerie, what you are paying for is the name, advertising and all the models too.

Either way, you may think you are getting a bare bottom price, but in reality the Lingerie Manufacturers no matter the country of origin is making a heck of a lot of money. All, I am saying here is that for those who wear lingerie, well, why should they have to pay an arm and a leg to show off their arms, legs and other stuff, when there is not even enough material to adequately cover it all?

Different Sports Bras for Different Levels of Activity

We know well that it's better to wear sports bras when engaging in sports and lively activities. But did you know that there are different kinds of sports bras for different levels of activity?

Depending on your active lifestyle, you should wear a sports bra that gives you the support you need. There are three basic sports bra categories, each divided into the level of impact it supports. To make choosing and buying the perfect sports bra for you, it's important that you should know what these three categories are.

o Sports Bras for Low-Impact Activities - Walking, skating and cycling are a few examples of low-impact activities. You can wear sports bras that offer minimal control against the bounce yet with ample breast support. Low-impact sports bras can also be worn during rock climbing and cross country skiing, when the breasts don't experience much bounce.

o Sports Bras for Medium-Impact Activities - Engaging in race walking, backpacking, downhill skiing and mountain biking require a moderate amount of support and control. You can use sports bras that offer a bit of compression for your breasts, since sports bras that have compressing abilities can control the bounce.

o Sports Bras for High-Impact Activities - Playing basketball or volleyball can make your breasts bounce, which can cause breast tissue damage. Activities like these would require you to wear sports bras that offer maximum support and control. So you should wear a compression sports bra for these types of activities. You can also use this kind of sports bra for running and doing aerobics to protect your breasts.

So what style of sports bra would suit your level of activity? If you are into medium to high-impact activities, a sports bra with compression design would suit you best. It holds your breasts against your chest, keeps them in place and reduces the bounce to a minimum. Compression sports bras offer the most control and support, making it ideal for women with very active lifestyles.

For low-impact activities, there is what you call the encapsulation sports bra. Unlike in a compression sports bra, this kind of sports bra gives you a more feminine shape - it offers separation. Women with larger cup sizes can wear this kind of sports bra since it also gives individual support for each breast.

Remember, not all sports bras are created the same. They are made to offer different levels of support, depending on which sport you do. Keep these tips in mind when shopping for the perfect sports bra for you.

Selecting Lingerie For Your Honeymoon

As an extension of the wedding celebration, of course you will want your honeymoon to go smoothly and to be fun for you and your spouse. Of course, the honeymoon is a chance to buy and wear some new clothing to celebrate your new life as a married couple, and while your focus is to be on the outerwear, don't neglect the lingerie for your honeymoon as well. New clothing for the bedroom can help create the right atmosphere for getting closer with your spouse, for sleeping, and for going through your routine. To help you purchase well when you buy lingerie for your honeymoon, here are some tips:

Be Tasteful

Even if you purchase some lingerie for your honeymoon with the intention of spicing things up in the bedroom, be sure to buy something that's a little more conservative and tasteful for your collection. Even a simple chemise can look attractive without being too revealing. Keeping the majority of your lingerie on your honeymoon tasteful also ensures that should housekeeping burst into the hotel room or your curtains allow anyone to see in, even a little, you'll be decent.

Pamper Yourself With Fabrics

Just because the lingerie on your honeymoon should be tasteful, however, doesn't mean you need to skimp on the material it's made of. Silk and satin are materials that are soft on the skin and comfortable to wear, which is what you'll want when you're trying for a little romance in the bedroom. Not only will you feel better wearing such nice things on your body, but it will better encourage your spouse to hold you when cuddling at night, or in the morning, which is what you want while on your honeymoon.

Buy Something For Him

While you're out shopping for lingerie for your honeymoon, don't neglect your husband, either. Just as new lingerie for your honeymoon will make you feel better at bedtime, so will some new bed wear for him, as well. Buy a pair of silk or satin pajamas or boxers for your husband, and he's almost certain to appreciate the care you've taken in helping him to look elegant in the bedroom.

And while you're buying some pajamas for him, consider looking for some his and hers bathrobes that match. Not only will it be a gift that helps to reaffirm your new life together, but also it'll make a nice look as you lounge around during lazy mornings during your honeymoon. With just a little care, you'll find that you have some great selections of lingerie for your honeymoon.

Fun With Plus Size Lingerie

When a woman is choosing her lingerie, it is important to keep in mind your own personality. You will want it to be as individual as you are. Your lingerie should feel as though it was created only for you. Avoid choosing anything that is too small, too revealing, or that any part of it makes you feel uncomfortable. You want be happy with your choice, and have fun wearing it.

If you already enjoy buying new bras or panties but that is where your lingerie know-how ends, then you have only just begun your journey into the sensuous world of the woman who likes to wear pieces of clothes that make her feel sexy, seductive, romantic and feline frolicky! Lingerie is an excellent way to start a fire in the bedroom but it is also equally at home on a night when you are sitting down in front of the television to watch a good movie with your beloved.

In today's lingerie fashions it seems that styles are geared towards thin and fit women. Plus sized women still want to feel comfortable and sexy in their lingerie. They want to buy from suppliers who can understand how they feel and make a product that will suit their needs.

One of the trendier types of lingerie is the baby doll chemise. The baby doll chemise is very becoming on a larger woman, as it accentuates her curves while drawing attention away from the less flattering body parts. Appealing and playful, the baby doll enhances a woman's shape. In addition, it can be mischievous or sweet, depending on what the situation warrants.

Baby doll chemises are often made from flowing, airy materials such as silk, or lace, or even cotton. Some are relaxed and comfortable in style while others carry a more purposefully sexy air. The mold for the baby doll is cut from a plunging neckline to various depths, an empire waist, spaghetti straps, and a hem around mid-thigh.

Sheer and lacy does not have to mean nearly naked! If you are a plus size woman who shies away from wearing sheer and lacy lingerie, then you have not found the right type for yourself yet. Avoid sheer lingerie that is too short, too tight or is barely there. There are beautiful lacy, sheer nightgowns that are three quarter length or floor length that are very eye catching and will hug your body in all of the right places. Long nightgowns have an elegance about them that is similar to the beauty and appeal of a floor length ball gown sweeping across the floor.

It's recommended to buy nightgowns that are long and touch the floor, thigh length, similar to a baby doll style. This is a great choice for those hot summer days. The loose, sexy sleep shirts and baby doll pajamas are also available. Mesh separates include camisole tops and tap pants which make the lingerie section of the plus size lady's wardrobe a great selection.

Sexy Lingerie Shopping Online

At one time shopping for sexy lingerie was something you did in a part of the city where you were unlikely to be recognized. This wasn't because you thought that there was anything wrong with the see thru thongs that you wanted to surprise your partner with, but rather that you didn't want other chance bumping into someone you knew whilst you were shopping and having them know that much information about your private life. Another reason to buy sexy lingerie in a less popular area of town was that this was usually the area where sexy lingerie stores were located.

Whilst wanting to turn on their partners, the whole seediness of buying even a quite demure sexy bra and panties, was off putting to many women who weren't comfortable buying another more than a sexy thong at their local boutique. Then along came the Internet. Along with all of the other online shopping trends that the Internet has brought with it, the anonymity of buying online is a great way of purchasing anything from a lace g string, to latex and sexy leather for those who are a little more daring! There's such a wide choice of available, and apart from the fact that larger ladies can find plus sized sexy lingerie online without any problem, the greatest feature is that the items are usually discreetly packaged and mailed to you direct at home! There's no need to blush as the sales person handles your plus size corset, or looks you up and down as you hand over the bondage leather lingerie that you're buying to knock your partner's socks off!

Online shopping is easy, and the check-out system for buying your risqué leather lingerie at some cyber sexy underwear establishment is no different than buying a book about growing herbs from Amazon. It's all very private. In the seclusion of your own home you can search through the catalogues showing what kind of lingerie is available, what sizes it comes in and which colors you can choose from. There's no embarrassment of having to search the rails wondering if a certain style comes in your size, and no buying a color you won't feel so sexy in because it was the only one you could find in your size and you didn't want to ask the assistant if they had any more in stock. It's just you, the pictures, and the fantasy you want to create for the special someone in your life!

There's nothing more feminine than knowing that beneath your business clothes you're wearing black lacy lingerie, or something a sheer sexy bra - and there's nothing more exciting for your partner than undressing you to reveal the secrets you've been hiding from the rest of the world all day, or the leather lingerie you've kept hidden all through your date! So if you'd love to really surprise your partner to perk up your love life, take a trip out onto the Internet and see what the cyber lingerie stores are offering. You'll be astonished at how much variety there is in sexy lingerie on the Internet, and how easy it is to make a purchase - and you'll be amazed at how sexy the sexy lingerie makes you feel!

How To Buy Women's Lingerie That's Both Comfortable And Sexy

In the past, when it came to women's plus lingerie, one thing was the focus -- looks. In fact, many women were fine with sacrificing comfort to look sexy. Maybe this was acceptable, due to the limited abilities to create and design lingerie. However, with technology more advanced than ever, there is is no reason why a woman cannot purchase women's lingerie that is both sexy to look at, and comfortable to wear. In this article, I will give you a guide on how to find such lingerie.

First off, sexy and comfortable women's plus lingerie can be achieved no matter what size you wear. There are a variety of different specialty stores that cater to the plus size woman, as well as to different shapes.

Naturally, comfort itself is not the only issue. If it were, than any old flannel or cotton nightgown would do the trick. In fact, that was what lingerie was originally designed for. In the past, there was no racy connotation attached to it. It wasn't until the burlesque era where women's lingerie became thought of as having to be sexy.

When looking for women's plus lingerie, make sure that in addition to looking titillating, it offers you freedom of movement. You want something that let's you breath, isn't overly clingy, and accents your curves instead of forcefully shaping them. If you are looking for something that is going to squeeze you into an impossible shape, then you're going to have to sacrifice comfort in order to achieve this.

Comfortable and sexy women's lingerie for the plus size woman is even more of an issue. In the past, there was so little choice that you basically had to settle for whatever you could find. However, that is not true any more. The demand for plus size women's lingerie has exploded, therefore forcing manufacturers and retailers to cater to plus size women. Because of this, there are now many different options that are available to the plus size woman.

Also, remember that you do not have to look sexy all the time with your lingerie. It is good to purchase both sensual products and lingerie you where just for your own for a comfort. There are real options available to you to fulfill both of these categories.

In conclusion, I have given you some information on to help you seek out and find plus lingerie that is sexy and comfortable.

Lingerie for Different Occasions

A lot of women are confused about what kind of lingerie to wear every day, and for special occasions. Therefore, I decided to give some advice and introduce you to different styles of lingerie and when to wear it.

Every Day Lingerie

Office

If you have an office job, and you always tend to wear pencil skirts and blouses, the best lingerie for you is bra set with thigh highs with suspender belts. Wearing it will make you feel sexy all day long, and it will be comfortable too. Wear G-string instead of regular panties, as panties tend to leave streaks visible on the skirt, and you really do not want that to be seen. If you wear blouses, definitely wear push up bra, as your bust shape will look really good.

On The Go

If you have an active job, try to wear more supportive lingerie, like supportive bra (sports bra) and a thong. I do not recommend suspender belts or thigh highs, as they may not be so comfortable if you move a lot. Try to wear materials that are gentle to the skin, like silk. Silk will not leave your skin rough or red if it brushes against the skin.

Weekend Lingerie

This is my favourite type of lingerie. There are so many types to choose from! Bra sets, corsets, teddies, camisoles. It really depends what you are going to do in your spare time.

If you want to spend a quiet evening with champagne and plan to have nice bubble bath, then definitely wear nice chemise or baby doll. It will give you self-esteem, and you will feel sexy and comfortable.

If you plan to go out and have a wild night, like going to clubs, or bars, you would feel great wearing bra set, and some females prefer wearing corsets as you can go out wearing corset with skirt or jeans, and you will look great. If also makes your figure look slimmer and very feminine, and lifts your bust.

Also, you may wish to wear camisole, as now it is very popular to wear it outside. There are many types of camisoles available, and women wear them nowadays as regular tops.

Teddies are great to wear on nights out too, and some of them give you thinner figure and very seductive shape too.

Date Lingerie

If you cannot get your head round on what to wear on your first night together, this part is for you.

I advise you to wear something that you feel comfortable in, and it should have a sexy edge too. Not too revealing though. And definitely not something that is very cheap, as you can easily tell.

Nice camisole, baby doll or elegant bra set would be the best choices. The colours to stick with are black, white, plum, really dark red or some other elegant colour. I would advice not to go for really bright colours, like pink or yellow. Go for something more elegant and subtle.

In general, if you are really not sure what to go for trust your own judgment or go for something that is more subtle and elegant.

Bustiers - Your Secret Weapon to a Sexier Figure

Prepping for a party? Wanting to wear that sexy figure-hugging dress but getting a bit worried about unsightly bulges? If it's too late to go on a crash diet, here's the next best solution: bustiers.

Yes, a bustier is your secret weapon to make those lumps and bumps disappear for a while - until you get home from the party, that is. Seriously, a bustier can instantly make you look smooth under anything you wear. It's made to give your breasts a lift and define your waistline, giving you a curvier and shapelier silhouette.

Bustiers are tight-fitting garments with bra cups. They offer support to your breasts while, at the same time, shaping your tummy and waist. Bustiers may be made using elastic fabrics or would have boning to help sculpt your figure. There are those that are made seamless, so people won't notice you're wearing a bustier underneath.

They could have closures using hooks or lace or strings, depending on its design and purpose. While there are bustiers that have back closures, many modern designs incorporate front closure so you could open and close them more easily. It is usually strapless, but many still come with removable shoulder straps - just in case you need extra security. The sexier bustiers have garter clips to hold your stockings up, making them perfect to wear if you want to catch your partner's attention.

For a lot of occasions, a bustier is a great garment to wear under your dress. Bridal bustiers can be worn under your wedding gown to give you curves at the right places - and they can even heat up your honeymoon night. There are low-back bustiers for those formal dresses that offer shaping and support even for those almost-backless and strapless fashions. You can wear them under almost anything!

Just remember, as with all lingerie and shapewear, a great fit is essential to feel comfortable and look beautiful. So get yourself measured and buy a bustier that fits your size. An ill-fitting bustier will just make your figure not-so-flattering under that dress. The right-sized bustier will give you the benefits of a smooth, curvaceous look. And that's exactly what you want, right?

Icing on the Cake - Lingerie Accessories - Part 4 - Fans

The feathered fan is the quintessential lingerie accessory, and there are so many words to describe it. It's seductive, sensual, playful, and expressive. In truth, it's all of that and more.

Fans have been around for centuries, and with Dita von Tesse leading the revival of burlesque, having one in your boudoir has never been more fun! There are multiple options with it, from doing a stripe tease, to fan dancing, to using a blindfold and caressing your lucky love. The soft, delicate feathers can only enhance an already intimate situation, making it more erotic.

Fans come in a variety of sizes, colors, and feathers. Alison Rubke, co-owner of Faire Frou Frou, says that the fans fly out of her store. Some of the more exquisite and one-of-a-kind ones can sell for a couple hundred to thousands of dollars. You can also pick up a quality, luxurious fan for under $100. Believe it or not, I've even seen them priced as low as $20. Although, remember that the large price difference varies based upon the quality and size of the it as well as type of feathers used.

For those of you wanting more versatility out of your fan, you can take them out of the bedroom too. "Pocket fans," smaller versions of their larger sisters, are recommended for this. At a black tie or formal event, the addition of a one will add a luxurious, extravagant look to your overall attire. With wedding season and summer coming, feathered pocket fans are perfect for outside of the boudoir.

Whether you're into a big production, dressing up an outfit or simply enhancing your bedroom play, feathered fans are an enjoyable way to "Celebrate Your Inner Eve!"

Virtues of a Bra That Fits

We've all been there. There is the bra strap that perpetually falls down, the strapless bra that migrates to your mid-section, and even the Grand Canyon shoulder strap crevasse. It all comes down to finding a bra that fits.

A bra that fits well is a priceless piece of lingerie! Because of that, here are "The Virtues":

1. Comfort

2. Confidence

3. It frees you of pesky underwire that can dig into your skin

4. It makes your breasts look like assets instead of liabilities

5. It enhances what you have instead of what you don't when the cup size is too big

6. It keeps your ample girls from spilling out the top on too small cup sizes

7. It keeps cleavage in the front, where it belongs, instead of on your back. You'll avoid that ghastly back cleavage caused by too BIG band sizes. (Go down a size and wear it lower on your back. It will eliminate back cleavage)

8. It supports your breasts and fights off the dreaded gravitational pull

9. Straps stay put instead of slipping down the side of your arms, leaving your breasts with lop-sided support. We all know that means "no support." (Most likely your bra band is riding up and you need to go down a band size)

10. It creates a better support for your back

11. It enhances your curves in ways that you never thought possible

12. It's a mood enhancing experience

13. Your confidence in how you feel and look is an instant aphrodisiac to your spouse, boyfriend or lover

There is an art to finding a good bra that makes you feel comfortable, assured, and luxurious all day. Before you can find that perfect bra, you have to know your bra size. Finding The Right Bra For Your Figure

Whether you're happy with your size or not, it's your size so you have to come to terms with it. Self acceptance is what you need, you should accept and be happy with your size. Curves are attractive and your inner confidence affects your outer appearance. If you don't have self confidence, other people can tell. You shouldn't focus on the less attractive aspects of your figure, but on the most attractive parts. As an example, if you have have attractive breasts then show them off with a larger size push up bra. A push up bra enhance your appearance in your dress or top. They often look the best with outfits that show your collar bone.

Just like the name sounds like, a push up bra 'pushes up' the breasts and allows them to appear higher on a woman's figure. For those women whose breasts have started to somewhat sag due to getting older, push up bras can be a vital necessity. A higher bust increases the length of the torso while giving the appearance of a slimmer waist.

The best materials for push up bras are satin and lace. Push up bras come in a wide variety of styles, so you will find it very easy to choose one that suits your needs because there is such a great selection available. Push up bras are sometimes referred to as balcony bras and they are a great wardrobe piece to accentuate a great bustline. Be creative and select one that suits your outfit and the occasion. Wear it with your favorite outfit with confidence, and you'll love the attention your beautiful plus size figure will get.

Every plus size woman should have a push up bra. If you prefer a sensual bra that shows a little more skin, then you should consider a demi-cup push up or a demi-cup that has a lace trim. These bras make a feminine and provocative statement.

Remember that a majority of push up bras are manufactured with wider set straps due to the increased need of support. The most vital component of a push up bra is that it needs to fit perfectly. The adage, 'it fits like a glove' needs to apply here. If the bra does not feel proportional and comfortable for your body then continue shopping.

To provide the proper support, a bra needs to be the right size for your figure. Even if you were a 38D at 20, you might have changed by the age of 30, and again by the time you're 40. Because of this possibility, it's a good idea to stop by a lingerie department or specialty store, and ask for a new bra fitting. After all, plenty of women aren't wearing the right bra size, and don't even know it. Once you've got all the information that you can get about your shape and the right size for it, you can shop online for bras with security and confidence.

The History of Sexy Baby Doll Lingerie

Baby doll lingerie is extremely popular today. Seen as a nightwear "classic," the babydoll continues to be remade and updated by lingerie designers. Yet very few people know the history of these now-classic pieces. Provided here is a brief guide to the short but interesting history of baby doll lingerie.

Women's nightwear has evolved and changed over time. By the 1930s, short and sensual were the order of the day. Women often wore short negligees with matching "bed jackets," which were short, sensual and sometimes trimmed with feathers or lace. Out of these bed jackets came the first baby doll lingerie pieces.

The garment got its current name from a 1956 film called "Baby Doll," which featured a young Carroll Baker wearing the item. The film was a success, launching a public infatuation with the garment. At that time, babydolls were simple, featuring a flared negligee with a hemline approximately six inches above the knee. Like the earlier bed jackets, baby doll lingerie often featured feathers or lace trim.

It was around that time that a daywear dress in babydoll style was introduced. The dresses maintained the short, sensual feel of the baby doll lingerie, but were more solid and appropriate for public view. Meanwhile, the nightwear version of the babydoll became increasingly more sensual. Gradually creeping shorter, and featuring ever more daring fabrics, baby doll lingerie made the switch from simple nightwear to true sexy lingerie.

Today, vintage baby doll lingerie can be highly valuable. Collectors often search for babydolls that date to the 1950s or 1960s. However, the item has also continued to evolve. Today a sheer babydoll or lace babydoll is easy to find. Hemlines now run the gamut from the traditional six inches above the knee to barely skimming the buttocks. Necklines range from a more traditional scoop neck to a deeply plunging, cleavage-enhancing V-neck. Babydolls are even available that more closely resemble the older bed jackets, featuring one or two front closures.

For those who prefer a bit of modesty, matching panties in a similar material are readily available, often sold as part of a set. More demure styles are also an option for those who prefer who more coverage. These styles are just as sexy as their more extreme cousins, often enhanced with fake fur, lace or other detailing.

Whether you are searching for vintage-style or more modern baby doll lingerie, you will find sizing a breeze. Unlike many lingerie items, babydolls are designed to fit a bit loosely. Some are offered in one size fits all designs, while others are sized according to dress size. This ease of finding a piece that fits may be partially responsible for the babydoll's continued success.

The babydoll was an instant classic upon its release, and remains one to this day. A sensual and luxurious option, baby doll lingerie is perfect for women of all shapes and sizes.

Sexy Basques - A History of Sexy Costumes and Elegance

Many women love to wear sexy costumes. From an elegantly sensual basque to an exotic bustier, sexy costumes are a terrific way to spice up the bedroom. Some basques and bustiers can even be worn as outerwear, offering a daring choice for a night out. Basques and bustiers have been around for many centuries, although they have adapted and changed over the years. Provided here is a brief guide to the history of these beautiful and sexy costumes.

Corsets

Both basques and bustiers developed out of the corset. Corsets first came into vogue in the 16th century. By the Victorian era, they were all the rage. Victorian women wanted their waists to appear as small as possible, and the era of tightlacing was born. At the time, corsets were not considered sexy costumes, but simple required undergarments. Girls received their first corsets at a very young age and wore them all of their lives.

Victorian corsets were longer than those of earlier eras, flaring over the hips and extending several inches down from the waist. This shape became extremely popular, and soon other clothing items adapted the shape.

Basques

Basques were originally Victorian-era jackets that mimicked the shape of the corset. The jackets were tightly fitted and extended past the hips, flaring out to accommodate a bustle.

Over time, fashions changed. Corsets began to fall out of favor in the 1910s, as the rational dress movement took over. Gradually bras and girdles took the place of the corset. Basques fell out of fashion as women stopped wearing bustles and waistlines crept upward.

Merry Widows

By the 1920s, traditional corsets were all but unheard of. The late 1940s, however, saw a revival of the corset. The corsets of the 1940s were known as merry widows, and were much shorter than traditional corsets. This was the first time that the garments were introduced specifically as sexy costumes.

Although merry widows were a brief phenomenon, their introduction set the stage for the use of basques and bustiers as sexy costumes. Women were beginning to enjoy their own sexuality, although it was still strictly behind closed doors.

The 1980s

By the 1980s, fetish wear was in. Following the freewheeling 1960s and 1970s, 1980s-era mainstream entertainers enjoyed nearly unprecedented freedom of expression. Trendsetters such as Madonna began the underwear-as-outwear craze. Sexy costumes escaped the bedroom and began to appear across the country.

Today's basques and bustiers are largely rooted in the fetish trends of the 1980s and 1990s. Largely modeled after Victorian-era corsetry, as well as the Victorian basque jacket, today's basques and bustiers range from mild to wild.

A supportive choice to wear underneath backless dresses, the strapless bustier is especially popular. However, more exotic bustier and basque choices are also available, including largely see-through pieces that are perfect for bedroom wear.

The bustiers and basques of today are designed to resemble the corsetry of the past. Modern materials ensure a subtle body shaping without the compression of the past. Blending functionality with exotic and beautiful designs, these sexy costumes are wonderful for a myriad of occasions.

Wearing Camisoles and Teddies Can Give You A Boost Emotionally

Okay, I know what you're thinking, how in the world could someones self esteem rise just by wearing something different. Well, it has because I never thought that wearing inner-wear, or lingerie (camisole lingerie and teddy lingerie) as outerwear would make me feel sexier and happier. How? My girlfriend, who is up on all the fashion trends, suggested I try wearing some  camisole tops or teddy lingerie as a way of redefining myself. I wasn't too sure at first, but I thought I would give it a try. I didn't go out and change my dressing habits all that much. I was extremely selective about what type of camisole tops and teddies I was going to put under one of my blazers in place of my typical blouse.

First I combed the internet looking and researching about just what camisoles and teddies meant. A Camisole or cami is a women's undergarment that covers the top part of the body. It is sleeveless and tight fitting. A camisole is sometimes worn cropped allowing the midriff to be exposed and can be made of a variety of fabrics such as silk, satin, lyra, nylon, etc. They can be worn over a bra or without one. Some camisoles come with a built-in under wire bra which eliminates the need for a bra. Here is the real exciting part: Camisoles are now very popular as outerwear. A teddy is an all in one piece of lingerie. Teddy lingerie provide for an alluring, seductive look and can be matched with a camisole and panty.

I didn't realize I had been complimenting so many co-workers on tops that turned out to be camisoles and/or lingerie. Well, if they could do it so could I! I didn't know of any really good stores in my area to shop in so I decided to order from the internet. I found some really sexy and chic camisole tops, and teddies that would fit my needs at work.

Once the packages arrived I became a bit nervous about actually trying the camisole and teddy lingerie on. Almost every piece fit and I was amazed at how flattering each piece looked on me. It made me feel like I was in fashion for the first time in years. I called my girlfriend and she came over to give me the once over. She gave me a glowing review and her comments made me feel important. I was looking forward to going to work for the first time in years.

Monday came and I walked in the front door. Immediately I received a compliment at how nice I looked. Someone asked if I had gotten a new hairdo...something looked quite different... they said I looked spectacular. The entire week went this way, thanks to my camisole tops, camisole and teddies  tucked beneath my suit jackets and blazers. Even the days that followed when I didn't find occasion to wear camisole tops or camisole lingerie beneath my suits I felt better and it seemed as though my co-workers treated me with greater respect and with greater interest.

The most important thing is I felt so important wearing the new items and it made me feel great. It SURE was great getting a jump start with my self esteem and as a result it had a cascading effect. I was able to hold myself with more confidence and so other people treated me accordingly. Owning and wearing camisole and teddy lingerie has been a win win situation for me.

How Lingerie Could Work in Your Favor

There are many ways to discover how sexy lingerie works in your favor. You can talk to the man that it's designed for or to the women who uses it daily. Lingerie is designed to make women, of all sizes, look and feel sexy, but it also has practical uses as well. The main goal is to accentuate a woman's body and make her feel good about herself. The lingerie industry strives to give people what they want. Because different people want different things, there are several types of lingerie.

The first type is practical lingerie. This kind is more logical than sexy, and is bought with logical thoughts in mind rather than erotic thoughts. If you prefer this type of lingerie, it doesn't mean you are not sexy, it just means you believe that your clothing serves a specific purpose rather than a whimsical purpose. And because you tend to lean this way doesn't mean that you can't have a wild side once in awhile. Just to make sure his pulse is still beating, you might want to put on a skimpy piece of lingerie once in awhile - let him know there is a sexy side waiting to emerge.

Another type is your basic sexy lingerie. This type gives you the sensibility of everyday underwear while also giving you an inner power of sexy. There is nothing like wearing something sexy underneath a chic outfit that no one but you knows about. Wearing sexy lingerie will build your confidence like nothing else can do. And if you are really brave, you can let your man know that you are wearing something special underneath the exterior and give him something to think about all day long. And then when he comes home that night ... well, just use your imagination.

The last kind of lingerie is erotic lingerie which is generally worn on special occasions. This type of lingerie is usually worn on anniversaries, special days, or when the kids are at grandma's house. Use naughty lingerie when you want to get his attention and have a little bit of fun. This is where you let that sexy side emerge.

Sexy lingerie is not just for the slim and trim. Many plus size women enjoy the benefits of lingerie. Just because some women are a little fluffy as I like to call it, doesn't mean they shouldn't have fun too. As a matter of fact, these women are the ones who seem to have more fun as they are generally more endowed than other women.

Speaking of plus size women, what bothers me the most is that most stores don't consider BBW in their merchandise. It can get frustrating for a large woman to find something sexy in a store. And then there's the fact that some sales clerks smirk at these women when they are browsing through skimpy items. That's why it's easier for a plus size woman to go online and purchase at a lingerie boutique rather than hunt down a store that caters to them. Have you ever seen a plus size woman in Victoria's Secret? And why not? Because they don't care about servicing the plus size woman. And what a mistake they are making! Statistics state that 62% of the women in the United States are size 14 or larger.

Varieties and Styles in Men's Underwear

Men Underwear is one of the things, which men might not really give much importance to. They simply put them on, get ready, and they are set to go. Yet to make sure, men underwear is the most valued and esteemed of all the other kinds of clothing for men. On the other hand, men's underwear appears in a lot varieties and styles so man must try different types and discover which works best with them.

Most t-shirts made for men are from cotton or might be made up of cotton blend. Men's shorts are as well manufactured of cotton, but some are produced from Lycra or spandex. Few are sold separately and some briefs or boxers are hanged in packages of one or multiples. Cotton underwear is most excellent if you stay in a hot or a little warm climate. Lycra or a Lycra combination is super for people living in colder temperatures, only in case your man could really handle the close fit, which Lycra offers you.

In addition also take care that your underwear is not really tight at the jock strap or at the waistband or else it would drive you crazy. Comfort is forever a first consideration with men underwear option for men. Even though he might not know this, men underwear is one of the most required elements of a man's wardrobe. In the last few decades, men's underwear has become accessible in many different colors and styles as well. There are briefs, boxers and other boxer-briefs. As the name implies, boxer-briefs are a mixture of the other two kinds and are form fitting and they are also longer at the thighs.

In spite of whether you are purchasing underwear, t-shirts or may be socks, it is suggested to try out different sizes and the materials to find the one, which is most compatible with you. Some men go with one kind of underwear for workdays and go with another pair for when they are at residence relaxing on weekends. It is simply the matter of personal choice.

Today's briefs are not the similar kind as it used to be and a man would have worn when he was in his childhood. Today briefs are not only accessible in white and made of a cotton fabric, but could be found in ranges of materials and colors. Look to Calvin's, DKNY or Cin2 for some great quality briefs. Boxer briefs are also accessible in many different kinds of colors as well as fabrics. You just need to make the right choice!

Spring Cleaning - Don't Forget the Lingerie Drawers

As seasons change, a rite of passage is the much anticipated or even much dreaded "spring cleaning". For some, spring cleaning is refreshing and productive; whereas, for others the idea of tackling the closet or floor to ceiling windows is daunting and they are not sure where to start. When creating your spring cleaning "to do" list, do not forget to clean out your lingerie, sleepwear and undergarment drawers. By taking steps to assess your intimate apparel products, you are not only reducing underwear clutter, but you are also identifying missing "must have" items for spring and summer fashions.

When adding these drawers to your spring cleaning list, a word of caution applies. The same rules that pertain when cleaning out your closet do not apply with these innerwear products. For example, if the rule of thumb is that if you have not worn a particular clothing item in the past year, then donate the items; however, in your lingerie collection you might own a strapless bra that you only wear once a year or the pair of holiday panties you pull out to celebrate the season. Do you donate these items? No, as a strapless bra is a wardrobe essential and seasonal products add something fun to your undergarments throughout the year, just as with home décor.

Following are a few spring cleaning pointers when determining what to keep and toss.

Bra Life Cycle: In general, a bra has an expected life cycle of two bras is six months and that is when washing these undergarments on gentle and not putting them in the dryer. During this life cycle, the elastic memory starts to go bad and you are no longer receiving the support you need. Looks can be deceiving when considering if a bra is still good as it may look new still, but it just may not be performing. Just as we slip into comfort foods or the trusted, proven T-shirt, women will time after time put on their favorite bra.

Quantity Matters: If you only shop for lingerie or undergarments once a year, be sure to select three or four of your favorite "go to" bra so you are never without old faithful. Every woman should have at minimum six bras: strapless; seamless (recommend multiple of this category); specialty (backless, low waist); sexy; sports (depending on activity, multiple sports bras might be required); and a spa bra (a more comfortable bra without full support).

Underwear Inventory: As you assess your underwear offerings, take into consideration of having a full week supply, so you only have to do laundry once a week and especially for warmer months or climates. Take advantage of newly developed fabrics resulting in true, "no show" panties (hence, the dreaded visual panty line vanishes). For color, it is important to have a shade of beige closest to your skin tone available for the ever popular summer white clothing items.

Green Bra & Panty Spring Cleaning: Consider donating lightly used, or even never-worn, under garment items to a woman's shelter. While helping other women, you are realizing the benefit of purging by simplifying your life. Another green twist on lingerie spring cleaning is repurposing, which includes identifying undergarment items, such as a camisole, that is appropriate and fashionable for outerwear.

Seasonal Sleepwear: Your favorite robe might be comfortable and even stylish, yet what is the material? Is it a heavy winter item or is it cotton? Ensure your sleepwear items match the season. For example, this summer you might opt for a waffle-textured or cotton robe and put away or donate the ever faithful heavy, quilted robe.

A Place for Novelty Items: You purchased cute heart panties for Valentine's Day or maybe some stars and stripes for the Fourth of July and now you wonder if these products should hold a place in your lingerie drawer. Be sure you know where these are kept and possibly consider placing these seasonal items together so you have for the limited wearing timeframe. Keep in mind that certain holidays have an extended life beyond holiday, such as hearts or snowflakes.

Plus Size Babydoll Lingerie Can Be Sexy On Most Any Plus Size Woman

Okay, you're a plus size woman and you really want to feel sexy in some lingerie. The first thing to remember is that no matter what your size you are beautiful. You must allow yourself to love yourself. So now you are ready to don some sexy lingerie. The perfect type of lingerie for the plus size woman is plus size babydoll lingerie. Why plus size babydoll lingerie? Because the design can be very flattering for all body types.

A babydoll outfit is a two piece set which has a loose fitting top that is designed to end at or just below your bottom. The key here is the top typically has a flowing or flyaway top similar to an empiress design which is very forgiving. It outlines the body delicately without making you feel uncomfortable in the undergarment. Also because the top flows to the area at or just below the bottom it tends to cover the hip region. The area around the breasts is typically covered by a soft cup or underwire allowing for many design styles. All plus size babydoll lingerie comes with a matching panty.

Although some plus size babydoll lingerie is more revealing than others just about every body type can find a style that compliments them. The key is to have courage to try on some seductive and sassy plus side babydoll lingerie to show off your bodacious figure. Remember, you are sexy and beautiful. If you're a bit shy I'd recommend sticking to the traditional plus size babydoll outfit which is less revealing and since it is more conservative you will be sure to have more coverage around the hip area.

No matter what style of plus size babydoll lingerie you select you will be well on your way to looking sexy and confident in this flattering piece of lingerie.

This would also allow you being lead into some very exciting role plays, which may even help you and your partner come closer and add more fun to your romantic evening.

Getting To Know Exotic Lingerie

Exotic lingerie can be described as lingerie that is created and worn purely for fun rather than for daily use. It can be anything from a pair of thigh-high stockings with matching garter, a set of vinyl bra and underwear, a pair of silk lace thong panties, or any other sexy piece of lingerie.

Some people also think of exotic lingerie as anything that is fun to wear, beautiful, unique or high-fashion - even if they do wear them on a daily basis. Italian and French made lingerie is seen by many as very exotic and is very desirable. For many women, it is a must to have sexy underwear for daily use at any given day of the week; and they may even think of exotic types of lingerie to be made of luxurious fabrics such as silk or very ornate.

Teddies Aren't Just For Hugging

I have a teddy in my bedroom and it isn't a teddy bear. It's a teddy, not just any old teddy I use it for business, uh I'm not sure you are clear in what I do for a living. Believe me it is perfectly legal and I'm well respected. Get on the fashion track because teddy lingerie is for more than just the bedroom! In the fashion world a teddy is an all in one piece of undergarment. Teddies can provide for an alluring, seductive look and can be matched with a camisole and panty. Many fabulous teddies (and teddy bears) are popular in the bedroom.

Teddy lingerie isn't just for the bedroom. The word lingerie is actually derived from the French word 'lin' for linen. The concept of undergarments being visually appealing is relatively recent. The fashion industry has expanded in the 21st century with lingerie designs that double as outerwear. The French refer to this as 'dessous-dessus' which basically means inner-wear as outerwear.

I didn't realize that what I wore as a part of a business suit was actually considered lingerie . I found this fabulous teddy and thought it would make an absolutely great top and never once did I look to see what department I had purchased it in. So many stores are laid out today where you turn one hundred eighty degrees and you're in an entirely different department. When I told the clerk what I had in mind for the top she thought I was a genius.

My entire business suit complete with teddy is quite chic and it has a nice snap crotch so when duty calls I can slip away from my desk and take care of personal business. I enjoy wearing teddy lingerie as an actual top. It's sexy and I feel awesome wearing something so bold underneath my business suit.

As teddies become more and more a part of every day fashion. I recommend that you try on a few sleek pieces. Whether you're in the boardroom or in your bedroom I'm certain you'll know how to make the men swoon.

For those of you that want to keep turning a man on in the bedroom you'll do just fine with teddy lingerie. The styles and designs vary greatly so you can be seductive or coy all depending on your mood.

Are You Getting All the Support You Need?

Much like in business, in your personal life you need to be able to count on that support. I'd like to address a different kind of support systems, a very underestimated but important topic, close to all "the girls"; it can add curves, reduce weight, lift up, bring together and help with all-around balance and posture. Now, that is an unconditional friend: the Bra!

As an Image Consultant I can say that it's probably one of the most difficult items to shop for yet one of those that make the most difference with garments. When a bra fits well, so does the dress, or the top and it shows, in the attitude, the vibe and the strut...

70% of women wear the wrong size bra. If your bra creates bulges, the cups don't fill, if they spillover or there's too much cleavage, if the breasts are too far apart, or the band digs, chances are you are wearing the wrong size bra. Don't panic, tips and principles spelled out ahead; a lesson in basics and simple facts to keep in mind:

  1. The band of the bra should fit snug around the torso but not too tight where it digs into your skin creating unflattering bulges, neither should it be so loose that it moves around creeping up and changing the center point, exactly at the sternum.

  2. Cups should lie flat against the skin, enveloping the breast, no puckering (too big a cup), no poking (too small).

  3. If the cups and straps fit but the band is not long enough to go around the torso in a way that a finger can fit through, then an extender would be a good solution. They are sold in most places where you buy your bra.

  4. Different bras are meant for different purposes and lifestyles: underwire, soft cup, balconnet, racer-back, minimizer, push-up, padded, convertible, full coverage, breast feeding and mastectomy bras. When buying a garment with a unique cut, neckline or back opening, make sure that you consider the undergarment. It is wise to try it on with the correct bra before committing to it just to make sure you are comfortable with it and you have all the necessary pieces that you need to be able to wear it even for a last minute dinner. It's a great stress reducer!

  5. There has been a 150 percent increase between 1998 and 2003 in the number of U.S. women opting to have both breasts removed to minimize the possibility of cancer spreading. If you have had a mastectomy or a lumpectomy find a certified bra fitter that can assist you with selecting a bra that is right for you, for the type of surgery you had, the stage of healing and the placement of the scars. The American Cancer Society's web site www.cancer.org is a great resource for searching this and other related information.

  6. Take good care of your intimate apparel so it lasts longer. Hand washing bras in cold water and drying on a flat surface over a towel, are best. However, if you need to use a washer and dryer, the delicate cycle is a must; use a delicate fabric wash as well, it is gentler and it prolongs the life of your undergarments.

  7. Is your cup full? Find your size. Sizes range from: AA, A, B, C, D, DD also called E, DDD or F, G, H, I,J, and K. Some manufacturers also have half sizes for cups that fall in-between the most common ones and others offer petite as well, which tend to fit breasts which are closer together.

  8. To be or not to be? Unless you are participating in a wet T-shirt contest, color bras under a white top are not advised. Better choices for a feminine, intriguing approach and depending on the skin tone are: beige, taupe, buff, chocolate and in some cases, off white for a more daring look (office staff, please disregard). T-shirt bras have a smooth finish that makes them poetically invisible and good under practically everything versus the lacy construction of the more commonly known as "sexy lingerie". I recommend lace for wearing under "forgiving fabrics", those that don't show everything under the sun, unless the desired effect, of course, calls for a purr....

For those who have a more difficult time finding the right bra, there are a number of specialty stores; you can search the internet or ask your trusted local wardrobe consultant or boutique to see who they work with.  It is important that they work with a vendor with access to a large selection of brands and that is available to meet you and measure and consult with you about your particular isssues.  How long should a bra last? You need retire the bra when you can pull the back band more than 1 inch away from your back.  When you have it clasped on the tightest hooks and you are still tugging, shifting and moving you bra and breasts into place throughout the day, it is time to say goodbye, no matter how attached you are to your "buddy". Most brands suggest that their bras are only good for a year if the bra isn't being worn daily or very frequently; the less you wear it, the longer you can keep it, so stock up on bras and get pretty ones too!..

A word (or two) of advice from the wise: as your body grows older and changes, so should your bra needs. Go for fitting at least once a year. Buy bras that make you feel as well as look great. A properly fitting bra can do wonders for you, your clothes and, may I add, for your self esteem; the gift of our undercover friend is simply priceless: the inner hug that just makes us feel secure and stand tall...

The Facts About Plus Size Lingerie

Plus size lingerie offers you more choices than ever before. Whether you want a pattern or design that is just practical and comfortable to wear, or something that is sexy, sensual or caters to a certain fantasy, there are options available to you. In this article, we will discuss the different facets of plus size lingerie.

First, let's start with the definition of what plus size lingerie is. Typically, it refers to sizes of lingerie that are 14 or greater, or are 1X or larger. In fact, the term plus size lingerie is a bit of a misnomer, because around 40% of American women wear a size 14 or greater.

However, due to the perception of the American media and general public at large, most shops tend to carry little in these sizes. This is ridiculous, because it forces women to have to search high and low to find lingerie that is sexy and comfortable. Good thing demand has risen so sharply, and that technology has changed.

Manufacturers have now responded to the plus size market segment, and there are currently more options available for plus size lingerie than ever before. Additionally, it is easier to purchase as well. Gone are the days where you had to be in a big city that had those rare specialty large-size lingerie stores. Anyone who has access to the Internet today can find the perfect lingerie for their needs.

Of course, if you find a plus size lingerie store on the Internet, it can be kind of intimidating. This is because there are now too many choices, where before there were too few. However, take some time to digest it all, and to familiarize yourself with the differences between the different types of patterns, and how to search the website.

With a little bit of research, and some focus, you should be able to find exactly what you want in little to no time at all. If you're still confused, e-mail or call the company. Any reputable company will have contact information that you can use to get the proper customer service. And if they don't respond back quickly, then is probably wise to move onto the next lingerie store.

Womens Underwear - A History Of The Bra

Today, women's underwear choices are numerous. Matching bra and brief sets are extremely popular, offering the best in both style and function. In fact, these sets seem so basic that it is hard to believe that there was a time when they did not exist. However, modern women's underwear styles are fairly recent inventions. Provided here is a brief guide to the history of the brassiere.

Ancient Cultures

In Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, breasts were generally uncovered. Women's underwear was basically unknown. Both men and women wore simple tunic-style garments. However, it was usual to expose the breasts, particularly in Greece, where female breasts had almost mythic significance. Greek women did, however, cover the breasts with tight, supportive bands known as apodesme when competing in athletic activities.

In Ancient Rome, breasts were less emphasized, and both men and women wore loose tunics that covered the chests. Young women sometimes wore a version of the Greek apodesmos, called the strophium, to minimize their breasts. This could be considered an early example of women's underwear.

Medieval

Contrary to modern mythology, medieval women did not wear bodices designed to enhance the breasts. In fact, it is believed that the Holy Roman Empire specifically forbade women to support their breasts or draw attention to them. Bodices were straight and designed to minimize rather than enhance curves. Women's underwear consisted primarily of simple shifts worn underneath a bodice and full skirt.

Renaissance

Renaissance style was far different than medieval style in many ways. In women's fashion, it became stylish to show décolletage. Breast feeding was discouraged among the upper classes due to the effect that it could have on the breasts. During this time, rudimentary corsetry developed.

The Age of Corsetry

Once corsets were introduced, they proved to have great staying power. Shapes and styles changed over the years, but the corset remained the women's underwear choice until the late nineteenth century. Of course, there were generally more practical alternatives for women who worked, either inside or outside the home. Even these garments, however, generally resembled corsets but were less compressive.

Clothing Reform Movement

In the late 1800s, two movements began that would ultimately lead to the development of the modern bra. Early feminists recognized that freedom from restrictive women's underwear was necessary before women could take on a larger role in society. Meanwhile, doctors began to recognize the health risks of tightlaced corsetry.

In the late 19th century, numerous patents were filed for breast-supporting corset alternatives. However, many of these designs were never manufactured. Only a handful of educated feminists and female athletes purchased the early bras.

World War I

World War I brought a lot of support for the emerging bra movement. Steel was commonly used for the stays in corsets, but was needed for the war effort. Meanwhile, women went to work in factories and industrial plants in great numbers. Societal attitudes began to change.

The 1920s to the 1960s

After the war, the bra became much more accepted. By the late 1920s, it had replaced the corset as the major staple of women's underwear. Shapes and styles changed with fluctuating fashions, but the garment remained largely the same.

Counter Culture

The women's liberation movement of the 1960s led record numbers of women to stop wearing bras altogether. Although bra-burning was likely much less common than urban legends would indicate, many women simply stopped wearing them.

Bra manufacturers fought back by capitalizing on the sexual liberation of the time to introduce increasingly daring alternative styles. It was during this time that women's underwear options dramatically grew.

The 1970s to Today

Today, women's underwear is big business. Sexy lingerie and matching lingerie sets are quite common. Whether you are in the mood for a demure and elegant bra and brief set or something a bit wilder, your options are virtually unlimited.
