A Lady's Closest Friend - Lingerie

The lingerie has always been an exotic item. Over the time various types of lingerie items have evolved, available in a multitude of colors, sizes, designs and patterns. Fashion changes as the weather changes. So has the demand and styles of lingerie changed over the period of time.

Since the last decade, women have been spoilt for choice when it comes to purchasing lingerie. From average fitting and limited styled garments to a plethora of sizes and near perfect fits, the lingerie has come a long way. Today, lingerie is available for almost all body types and tastes. So much has been the metamorphosis in lingerie designing that it has become a fashion statement to some extent and women are not afraid to flaunt their latest catch.

Lingerie terminology is pretty simple and generally refers to the body part that an item is meant for. Some of the common forms of lingerie items are as under:-

Garter Belts - It is a piece of undergarment consisting of an elastic piece of clothing worn around the waist to which straps are attached that aid in holding up the stockings. Garter belts help in keeping the stockings in their place and prevent slip ups.

Negligee - The negligee is a type of night gown, usually worn to bed and usually consists of a single piece of cloth, falling down to the knees or below the knees. Modern day negligees are usually made of semi-transparent fabrics and tend to be trimmed with lace or other fine materials.

Panties - Panties are usually a single piece of cloth worn in the area below the waist. They consist of an elastic waistband to tie around the waist and a crotch to cover the area between the legs.

Babydolls - A babydoll is a type of negligee, often short, loose fitting and used as a sleepwear. Babydolls usually consist of manufactured cups attached to a loose fitting skirt.

Teddies - A teddy is an undergarment which is usually a set of camisole and a pair of panties. The camisole covers the top part of the body, whereas the panties cover the area below the waist.

Camisoles - A camisole is a ladies undergarment that covers the top part of the body, more specifically the area between the shoulders and the waist. It usually a sleeveless and tight fitting garment manufactured from silk, satin or many other fabrics.

Chemises - A chemise is very similar to a camisole, except for the fact that it is usually loose fitting.

Thongs - The thong is an undergarment, often used as a swimwear. A thing usually consists of a thin strip of fabric stitched along the center of the rear of the garment, designed to fit between the wearer's buttock cheeks, connected to a larger and flat piece of fabric to cover the front.
